Seriously though, that technology is an absolute game changer for a lot of industries.
If you could combine it with voice recognition somehow think of the possibilities.
Ultra Cool! Walk into McDonalds and there is no cashier. Just one of these (smaller than the video or it is your table top) order your food by dragging combos around. Some kind of pass key to pay. Food is delivered to your table or you are notified when ready. Play a game or read a book or send an e-mail or surf the web or see a McD ad (for food points of course) or things we haven’t thought of. That is just scratching the surface. These things will be everywhere.
Minority Report. This is similar to the interface the cops were using. They didn’t physically touch the screen (some sort of glove if I remember correctly) but similar idea.
Business intefaces would change for managers who need certain types of data. This is like the Apple video I saw about 10 years ago where the furniture in the work place (desktops cube/office walls) will be the visual device for processing data. As you walk in it recognizes you and you use voice and touch instead of a keyboard to interface. Price is an issue but if the demo machine we just saw cost $10K now, it will be half that in a few years. $5K for a home system is do-able for most. Home automation interfaces would be a perfect application for this. Home communication center (better than what HP is putting out there now).
Only time will tell but I am with you. A little price break and I want one. What about gaming… I have to stop. I keep thinking of things to use this with.
Awesome technology. I can imagine in the not to distant future, designing our hotels with the front desk counter using surface technology. Place your credit card on the counter, and your reservation pops up with a picture id associated with the card to prevent fraud.
Place a business card on the counter and the os populates the fields of your reservation in a second. Maps to popular locations would be at a touch. Sign me up.

Ahhhhuuuhhh! That’s been the big talk around here. I think it’s taking the heat off the “famous Vista OS” (thank God!)… Pretty cool!
